Frequently asked
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Encoding runs in your browser with the same codecs it uses to display images. Nothing is transmitted.
Is EXIF and location data removed?
Yes, always. Re-encoding a photo through the browser's image codec strips metadata as a side effect, including GPS coordinates and camera serial numbers. There's currently no way to compress while keeping it intact.
How many images at once?
As many as your memory allows. A few hundred photos is routine on a laptop.
Does compression lose quality?
JPG and WebP are lossy, so yes at low settings. 75 is visually indistinguishable for most photographs.
Can I keep PNG transparency?
Yes. PNG and WebP outputs keep the alpha channel; converting to JPG will flatten it onto white.
Does this work offline?
Yes, once the page has loaded.
