Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs on a canvas in this tab. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Does this use AI?
No, by design. Every AI background-removal model we could find is either restricted to non-commercial use or carries an unresolved licensing question in its training data. Rather than ship something with that risk (or make you wait on a multi-megabyte model download), this uses a classical color-based technique: it detects the background color and removes everything connected to it from the edges inward.
What kind of photos does this work well on?
Anything with a solid or fairly uniform background. Product photos, logos, a portrait against a plain wall or backdrop. A busy, textured, or multi-colored background is a much harder problem this technique isn't built for.
The result has a hole in the middle of my subject, or missed part of the background. Why?
A hole means a spot inside your subject matched the background color and touched the edge through a gap; try lowering the tolerance. Leftover background usually means the tolerance needs to go up, or the auto-detected color was slightly off. Use "Pick color" to click the exact background shade.
What is "Select subject" mode, and when should I use it?
Instead of detecting a background color, you drag directly on the image to draw a loop around the subject. Everything outside that loop is removed. It works no matter how busy or multi-colored the background is, since it doesn't look at color at all, but the cutout is only as accurate as the loop you draw.
